Example Berlin
Examples for Results of Analyses in the Region of Berlin
The city of Berlin, the capital of Germany, is characterised by many regional development processes. By using the categories
and minimal mapping units of CLC2000, it is difficult to monitor the construction of new public and commercial facilities
in the centre of Berlin. The main part of urban sprawl can be observed at the periphery and outside the Federal State of Berlin,
in the surrounding State of Brandenburg.

7-ETM+) on the right, bands 5, 4 and 3 in RGB, overlain by the resultant vector data. The satellite map in the left covers
an area of about 78 by 56 km.
Many new industrial and commercial sites grew up in the western neighbourhood of Berlin, e.g. in the suburb of Falkensee,
but also in the south and in the north-east of Berlin. Other land cover / land use changes are connected with former military
training sites (now protected areas with increasing transitional woodland / shrub) and with transformations of fruit and berry
plantations to other arable use (in the West of Berlin).
